Uzbekistan will have its own "Golden Ring"

Uzbekistan will create a version of Russia's Golden Ring tourist route, RIA Novosti reported, citing the country's State Committee for Tourism Development.

The State Committee for Tourism of Uzbekistan announced the creation of a similar facility in the Fergana Valley in the east of the country. The Golden Ring. A project to develop the region's tourism potential, modeled on the famous Russian route, is expected to be completed by December 2019. The development of the Uzbek "ring" includes the creation of an optimal network of transport routes linking the Fergana Valley with Tashkent, the construction of international-standard road and roadside infrastructure, including campgrounds and motels, and the renovation of tourist facilities. This ambitious plan is scheduled to be implemented by 2025.

The Fergana Valley is located in the mountains of Central Asia, spanning the Andijan, Namangan, and Fergana regions of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Part of the Silk Road, connecting China and Europe, once ran through the valley. Numerous Islamic and Buddhist monuments are located within the valley, representing the rich historical legacy of this famous caravan route.

The Golden Ring of Russia route was developed in the 1960s to attract foreign tourists. It traditionally includes eight cities: Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal, and Vladimir. Kasimov in the Ryazan region and Kaluga were recently added to the list. The route is visited by approximately 18 million people annually.
