Indonesia closes borders to tourists

Starting from March 20, Indonesia will stop accepting foreign tourists. The restriction is expected to be lifted on April 20. This was reported to the portal TRN The representative office of the country's Ministry of Tourism in Russia reported.

 

 

So, according to the official decree Government of Indonesia on March 17, 2020 in connection with the situation of the spread of the new coronavirus, the country introduces a number of new restrictive rules that will be in effect from March 20 to April 20, 2020 until further changes. 

  • The Indonesian government suspends visa-free travel, visa on arrival, and visa-free travel for diplomatic/service passport holders for 1 month. 
  • All foreign nationals who wish to visit Indonesia must obtain a visa from Indonesian missions according to the purpose of their visit, subject to permission from the Indonesian Immigration Department. When applying, applicants must provide a health certificate issued by the relevant health authorities of the respective countries.
  • Entry or transit through Indonesia is prohibited for persons who have visited China, South Korea, Iran, Italy, Vatican City, Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland in the past 14 days.
  • Upon arrival in Indonesia, all tourists are required to complete a health declaration form.
  • For those tourists who are currently in Indonesia and whose visa is about to expire, special rules for visa extension will apply. You can find out about them at your nearest Indonesian immigration center.
  • In addition, Bali International Airport will be closed on March 25, 2020, due to the annual Balinese New Year celebrations. The airport will resume operations on March 26, at 6:00 a.m. local time.

    Due to measures to combat the spread of the virus, a number of tourist spots will be closed in Indonesia, such as the Borobudur and Prambanan temples in Yogyakarta, the National Monument and museums in Jakarta, and many others.
