In Switzerland, Italy and Greece, the OTA booking system Priceline (part of Booking Holdings Inc.) had the highest market share in Europe last year — 75.6%, 75.53% and 72.91%, respectively, according to a new study of the European hotel market, initiated by the European Institute of Tourism and the Association Hotrec.
The fourth and fifth places in terms of company influence are occupied by the Czech Republic and the Netherlands – 70,73% and 66,96% respectively.
According to the study, Expedia's share is particularly high in Sweden (30.1%), Norway (29.77%) and Spain (26.6%), as well as France (23.22%) and Finland (23%).
As we reported earlier, at the end of 2017, the three main OTA market players were leaders in the industry, including Booking Holdings Inc., Expedia Group and HRS. The combined market share of these players is 92%. Booking.com is the most influential OTA with a share of 66.4%. Expedia has almost maintained its market share over the past two years: 16.8% in 2015 and 16.6% in 2017, but,
HRS has lost market influence: last year the share was 9% compared to 16.6% in 2013.
