The Russian Consulate General: There is no talk of evicting tourists stranded on Hainan.

Grigory Kolyshkin, Attaché of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou (Guangdong Province, southern China), reports that there is no talk of evicting the stranded Russian tourists from the tour operator "Pearl River." The tourists will most likely be relocated to other hotels, as The hotels they are currently staying in are awaiting the arrival of other travelers.

"As for eviction, that's not being considered. The question of relocation may be raised," notes Grigory Kolyshkin.

"So, the tourists currently stuck here are staying at the hotel. But a new group arrives, and in that case, they won't be evicted. They'll be moved to another hotel. That's an option, but throwing them out onto the street is not," he noted.

Moreover, the diplomat notes that the exact number of Russian tourists stranded on the island is difficult to determine due to the influx of new arrivals.

"The figure is constantly changing, unfortunately, because new arrivals are taking place. But as far as we know, we're talking about 1,500 Russian tourists," he said.

According to the diplomat, a so-called roadmap is currently being developed to help bring Russian tourists back from the island.

"Our staff is in constant contact with the Chinese authorities, Rostourism, IrAero Airlines, and the tour operator Pearl River. We currently know that Rostourism is working with these organizations to develop a roadmap for the speedy return of our tourists. For our part, we have sent a note to the Hainan Provincial Government requesting that they oversee the accommodation, food, and medical care of Russian tourists whose flights were cancelled," noted Grigory Kolyshkin.

"We're waiting for Moscow's reaction once the roadmap is developed. Then we'll have some results and know when Russian tourists will be sent home," he added.

According to TASS, Rostourism called for an interdepartmental meeting on December 10 with the Ministry of Transport and the Federal Air Transport Agency to resolve the current situation. According to Rostourism, tourists traveling to China with the Zhemchuzhnaya Reka tour operator have return tickets. Accordingly, IrAero is obligated to return the tourists from the resort on the dates specified on their tickets.

As a reminder, IrAero Airlines announced the cancellation of flights to Hainan through the tour operator Pearl River. Evgeny Kosinkov, the tour operator's commercial director, recently reported that they have no outstanding debts to the airline.
