Travel service Tutu.ru analyzed bookings for the New Year holidays (December 25 to January 8) and found the most expensive air and train tickets, as well as tours.
Aviation
The top 10 most expensive routes for New Year's dates include Mostly, the tickets were for business class travel. The exception was the Moscow-Singapore flight, for which three travelers purchased tickets for 370,000 rubles (three roundtrip economy class tickets). Only international flights were included in the ranking.
Tickets from Moscow to Cape Town, South Africa, were the most expensive for tourists. One traveler paid almost 250,000 rubles for a roundtrip flight. Moscow to Geneva came in second, with a one-way ticket costing around 200,000 rubles. Incidentally, the Moscow-Geneva route turned out to be the most popular luxury vacation destination, appearing three times in the top ten most expensive tickets. And yet, the flight from the Russian capital to Geneva is only three hours.
Most travelers who spent tens of thousands of rubles on a ticket will depart from Moscow. But there are exceptions. Two Khabarovsk residents will fly to Auckland for 381,000 rubles one-way. Two travelers from St. Petersburg will fly to Rome for 339,000 rubles (roundtrip).
Tours
Travel packages for the New Year holidays in Thailand (9 nights with breakfast in a three-star hotel) and the Dominican Republic (10 nights in a five-star hotel on an all-inclusive basis) cost tourists around 320,000 rubles.
Third place in the ranking of the most expensive tours is taken by trips with departure from Novosibirsk to Vietnam (254 thousand for two for 9 nights with breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Railway
The most expensive train ticket was sold to passengers traveling in a luxury carriage from Kansk to Moscow (30,000 rubles for a one-way ticket). A traveler from Birobidzhan paid slightly less, 29,000 rubles, for a ticket to Moscow. In third place was a train ticket from Irkutsk to Moscow (28,000 rubles in a luxury carriage).
The top ten includes four routes between Russian cities: Kansk-Moscow (1st place), Birobidzhan-Moscow (2nd place), Irkutsk-Moscow (3rd place), and St. Petersburg-Moscow (10th place). Tenth place goes to a Sapsan train. The price is practically identical to a compartment train to Nice.
