Should we expect Egypt in April?

Direct air service between Russia and Egypt will likely resume this spring, Interfax reports, citing a source at one of the airlines.

“At the end of February, the Egyptian national carrier provided the Russian side with a package "Technical documentation, which, among other things, defines measures to ensure aviation security. This is a prerequisite for the commencement of flights to Russia," the source said.

Meanwhile, the documents provided have not been translated into Russian.

"It will take time to translate and certify the documentation. Then, the documents will be reviewed for compliance. This involves completing the final formalities for resuming air travel. It is expected that it will resume in the spring, possibly as early as early April," he said.

Earlier, Egyptian media, citing EgyptAir CEO Safuat Muslim, reported that the Egyptian carrier intends to resume flights to Moscow by the end of April. Meanwhile, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov has repeatedly stated that regular air service between the two capitals is expected to resume in the second half of February. He stated that initially, five flights per week would be operated on this route: three by EgyptAir and two by Russia's Aeroflot.
