Russian tourist flow to Thessaloniki fell by 11,12%

Tourist flow from Russia to Thessaloniki fell by 11,12% in the first six months of this year, RES-MPA reports, citing official sources.

Overall, there has been an increase in foreign tourist flow to this popular resort. According to the Hotel Association, from January to June 2018 Thessaloniki received 1,115,097 visitors, up from 1,085,595 in 2017.

Israel ranks first in terms of tourist flow, with the number of overnight stays increasing by 113,161 TP3T – 64,205 compared to 30,121 in 2017.

Cypriots ranked second with an increase of 1,651 overnight stays (64,003). The German market remained in third place, but grew by 9,331 overnight stays (39,351).

And now Türkiye, Bulgaria and Russia have reduced their flow rates.

Thus, Turkey fell from second place, where it held the title in 2017, to sixth. Tourist arrivals from the country decreased by 21,421 overnight stays. Bulgaria also saw a decline of 15,221 overnight stays, and tourist arrivals from Russia to the resort decreased by 11,121 overnight stays. Russians stayed in Thessaloniki for 23,569 nights, compared to 26,519 last year.

Meanwhile, the Thessaloniki Hotel Association notes a significant increase in the number of Armenians, Slovenes and Ukrainians at the resort.

In particular, the tourist flow from Armenia increased by 242,64%, from Slovenia by 70,87% and from Ukraine by 46,09%.

Survey data from GBR Consulting shows that in the first half of 2018, the average room rate (ARR) in Thessaloniki was €7.11. RevPar (revenue per available room) also increased by €9.01, reaching €49.56.

However, in a list of European cities of similar size (including Antwerp, Birmingham, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Budapest, Hamburg, Manchester, Salzburg), Thessaloniki ranks last in these indicators.
