Flower carpet unfurled in Brussels

For almost half a century, every two years a carpet of living flowers has been laid out on the central square of Brussels, Grand Place. This year, you can admire the 1,800 square meter floral painting from August 16 to 19.

For the first time in history, the flower carpet will be themed on Mexico, the Brussels tourism office reports. It will be dedicated to the Mexican region of Guanajuato, which is also famous for its tradition of creating paintings from fresh flowers. The complex design of the flower carpet includes many traditional Mexican symbols and motifs, and will be done in red and brown tones.

Tourists who find themselves in the capital of Belgium these days will also be able to visit a flower exhibition in honor of the 20th anniversary of the inclusion of the Grand Place in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which will be held from August 17 to 19.
