This month, the QE2 hotel, located on the Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner, will celebrate its grand opening in Dubai. This luxury hotel has been operating in soft opening mode since the spring.
Plans to open a five-star hotel on board the legendary ship were announced back in 2007. Istithmar, an investment company owned by the Dubai government, purchased the 293-meter-long vessel from Cunard for approximately $100 million. After years of restoration, Queen Elisabeth 2 looks as magnificent as the day of her maiden voyage: the interiors have been meticulously restored, and a museum dedicated to the vessel's history has been opened onboard.
The hotel's rooms range from 17 to 76 square meters. Eight of the ship's ten restaurants are currently open, according to Russian Emirates. The legendary ship also boasts the recently launched Dreamworks Spa wellness center. Indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, and even a separate private beach accessible by boat will also soon be available to guests. The QE2 hotel will offer guests a "world-class 24-hour entertainment program." Several duty-free shops will also open on board.
The cost of accommodation at the hotel starts from $136 per double room per night.
The Queen Elizabeth 2 operated for transatlantic cruise lines from 1969 to 2008, carrying over 2.5 million passengers. This luxury vessel has carried numerous celebrities, including Britain's Prince Charles, its first passenger.
