Tour operators: recommendations to avoid trips to Georgia are completely unfounded

Russian tourists have been advised to refrain from traveling to Georgia due to the protests. The corresponding statement was made by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov. However, according to tour operators, the rally with arrests, which happened the day before was of a local nature - all tourists are vacationing as usual, and there are no people who want to cancel their trips to the country. As experts emphasized, such a statement is absolutely unfounded.

Recall that the previous evening several thousand people gathered outside the parliament building in the center of Tbilisi. The protesters demanded the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the speaker of parliament.

The most active participants of the rally attempted to storm the building. After that, the police, using tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons, dispersed the rally. According to local media, several dozen people were detained as a result.

In turn, the reason for the mass rally was the scandalous participation of State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov and other delegates from Russia in the 26th session of the General Assembly of the International Assembly on Orthodoxy in Tbilisi.

"If I were a Russian tourist, I would refrain from visiting Tbilisi for now, although Georgia has become one of the favorite travel destinations for Russians in recent years. Why take risks? Let the Georgian authorities resolve the situation first," he said, RIA Novosti reports.

However, as tour operators emphasize, at the moment there are absolutely no reasons for concern and especially no such recommendations.

"Yesterday's protest was local in nature - today absolutely nothing is happening. The only consequence of yesterday's rally was the closure of Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. There is nothing on the city streets that reminds us of the protest: everything is clean and tidy. The city lives a normal life. Therefore, at the moment we do not see any reason to give such recommendations to Russian citizens. At the same time, we are well aware of the degree of responsibility for the safety of our tourists. We are monitoring the situation and exchanging information with our Georgian office on an hourly basis. And today I can say that absolutely nothing threatens not only the lives, but also the comfort of Russian tourists in Georgia. The only thing is that there are minor changes in the excursion routes - we do not visit Rustaveli Avenue," the head of the department told the TRN portal.General Director of the tour operator "Mouzenidis Travel" Alexander Tsandekidi.

IN press service TEZ TOUR They also emphasized that everything is calm in Georgia. “Yesterday, an opposition rally took place in Tbilisi in front of the Georgian parliament, which was dissolved by government forces. Today, the situation is absolutely calm, there were no unrests. In Batumi, the situation is also normal - the political crisis does not affect tourists in any way. All tourist sites are operating as usual, excursion programs are planned according to the schedule,” the company said, noting that every year, resorts in Adjara are becoming increasingly popular among TEZ TOUR clients for summer holidays.

"Overall, the situation in Georgia is calm, there are no official bans or recommendations not to visit. There are no complaints from tourists. There are no requests to cancel the trip either," they added. ANEX TOUR press service
