Discussions on opening charter flights to Egyptian resorts will begin after the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup, according to Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh, according to Interfax.
According to the head of the department, representatives of the Egyptian aviation authorities visited Russia. The minister and his foreign guests discussed the resumption of charter flights to the Arab state's resorts. However, it was decided that specific measures related to the resumption of flights will be held after the conclusion of the World Cup. Therefore, negotiations regarding charter flights to Egypt will resume after July 15.
It was previously reported that charter flights to Egyptian resorts would resume in 2018.
As a reminder, air service between Moscow and Cairo reopened on April 11, two years after the reopening. Flights are operated by Aeroflot and Egypt Air. During the World Cup, Aeroflot received permission to operate charter flights from Cairo to St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, and Volgograd. Experts believe that the restoration of mass tourism to Egypt is only possible after the reopening of direct flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, as flights via Cairo are inconvenient and expensive for most tourists.
